Another director to make his name directing groundbreaking pop promos
during the 90's, Michel Gondry has made a successful transition to
feature film directing. I'm a big fan of 'Eternal Sunshine of the
Spotless Mind' but feel that since then Gondry has struggled to make a
truly Gondry-esque film. Both 'The Science of Sleep' and 'Be Kind
Rewind' had their moments but didn't quite match the visual ingenuity of
his promo work and I never saw 2011's 'The Green Hornet' but it sounds
like the heavy studio involvement led to compromised creative input from
Gondry.
The trailer for his latest film 'Mood Indigo' is very
promising & looks like Gondry is back to doing what he does best,
getting inside his characters heads by conjuring up a surreal dream-like
alternative universe. No one does whimsical quite like Gondry.
