Chris Cunningham

Since his 90's heyday Chris Cunningham has stayed well out of the spotlight working mainly on music production and audio visual performance pieces such as Jaqapparatus 1.  Although often rumoured to be developing scripts he doesn't seem to have applied his immense talent to feature films since his early model making days and his animatronic work for tests that Stanley Kubrick carried out for A.I.  He came close to adapting William Gibson's cyberpunk classic Neuromancer in 2000 but pulled out when he realised he wouldn't have final cut.

Looking at his website for clues of any current projects I was reminded of how groundbreaking and way ahead of their time his run of 90's promos were, notably 'Come to Daddy' and 'Windowlicker' for Aphex Twin and 'All is Full of Love' for Bjork, all of which I think I once owned on VHS.  I also came across some of his lesser known work like this genius promo for The Horrors 'Sheena is a Parasite' (a rare return to promo work in 2006) and a Gucci commercial from 2008 for which he produced a new version of I Feel Love, travelling to Nashville to record a new Donna Summer vocal.
He gave us a taste of how out-there a Chris Cunningham feature might be in 2005 with the experimental 6 minute short Rubber Johnny, produced by Warp Films.
