King Krule

King Krule’s first new music since 2017 album The Ooz appeared at the tail end of last year as part of a 15 minute short film Hey World featuring 4 new tracks.

I love the extremely lo-fi nature of the VHS shot film. Parts of it remind me of my own hi-8 experiments from 20 years ago.

When Fire Burns Cotton

A film I cut for artist Mary Flower is currently on display in the Geology gallery at Bristol Museum. When Fire Burns Cotton looks at the relationship between the standing stones at Stanton Drew and the planes that fly directly over them and the idea that objects have an existence in the world that humans are unable to access.

Orla Gartland

Yn Mor deservedly picked up a couple of awards at the Cornwall Film Festival in November; Best Regional Short & Best Ensemble Performance. I got to team up once again with Director Zoe Alker and DOP Charlotte Croft recently to cut the music video for Orla Gartland’s Figure it Out.

Orla has a massive fan base and the video has already clocked up 30K views on YouTube after it's first couple of days of release. I’m used to cutting shorts that are rarely seen outside of film festivals so it’s great to cut something that gets so much exposure for a change.

Yn Mor

I have just locked my latest short film Yn Mor directed by Zoe Alker. Shot on location in Porthleven, the film explores the relationship between a fisherman (Martin Savage) and his grown up daughter (Jenny Jope). It's a great little film with impressive performances from the leads who speak to each other throughout in Cornish, a language rarely heard on film.

Settlers is all finished and ready to hit the festival circuit. In the meantime here is the first film I cut for director Matt Chambers in it's entirety, Daddy My with a touching performance from Rory Kinnear.

I'm very happy to be working once again with director Matt Chambers (Daddy My) and actress Victoria Emslie (Run it Off) on a brilliant new short Settlers, a film I've been looking forward to cutting since I first read the script 18 months ago. It's a dark comedy about a marriage proposal shot on the Isle of Portland which, coincidentally, is where I proposed to Clare almost 8 years ago. I can't wait to watch this one with an audience.

Run It Off

Run it Off directed by Liam O'Hara, a short film I cut for Creative England's iShorts initiative, is about an unlikely friendship that develops one evening when a long distance runner introduces an unhappy young woman to the cathartic power of running. 

I think the film looks fantastic. Top marks to DOP Kia Fern Little and Dirty Looks who did the grade. And with great performances from the two leads Victoria Emslie and Zephryn Taitte I'm hoping for a strong showing on this year's festival circuit.

Run it Off is showing at this year's Encounters Film Festival in Bristol on September 22nd as part of the Creative England showcase.

I am delighted to announce that I'm cutting a wonderful short called 'Daddy My' directed by Matt Chambers and starring the amazing Rory Kinnear . It's a great little film about a father and son relationship that I'm sure will be a big hit on the festival circuit.

The Backseat

I am very pleased to be working once again with Miranda Howard-Williams on her latest short film The Backseat, due for completion in early 2016.

From the backseat of the bus, Shelby is trying to make sense of the world and the people in it. We hear Shelby’s stories and along the way meet a busload of colourful characters.

Brakes

I'm currently seeing if it's possible to cut a feature film in 12 days as I finish off a version of Mercedes Grower's lo-fi debut feature Brakes. The amazing cast includes Kerry Fox, Steve Oram, Paul McGann, Julia Davis, Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding.

Camping with The Barstows

Portable Pictures will be screening Camping with the Barstows next Fri-Sun in The Edwardian Cloakroom in Clifton, Bristol with a new live score performed live by Jimmy Lions.

We'll be screening the film every hour from 2pm - 5pm on Friday 5th Dec and 11am - 5pm on Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th Dec. Admission is free, no booking required.
