Sightseers

My favourite film of 2012 was Ben Wheatley's Sightseers, the funniest horror-comedy since Shaun of the Dead and the best film about camping since Nuts in May.

Sightseers perfectly captures the eccentric side of Britain.  The balance between the humorous and the grotesque is spot on and Steve Oram and Alice Lowe's well defined Chris and Tina give the film unexpected emotional clout.

I loved the dark edge to the film and the folksy hint of Wicker Man surreal.  It was made even more surreal by watching it in a room full of crying babies at a Cinebabies screening at The Watershed!  We didn't make it out to the cinema much in 2012 (it's hard to find a babysitter for a baby and a couple of three year olds) so there are a bunch of films I never managed to catch.  Hoping to catch up with some of these next year; The Master, Argo, Broken, The Imposter, Searching for Sugarman.
