In 1977 John Krish directed the hard hitting short film for British
Transport Films 'The Finishing Line' in which school children take part
in an imagined sports day on a railway embankment with events including
'Fence Breaking', 'Stone Throwing', 'Last Across' and most dangerous of all 'The Great Tunnel Walk'.
Making The Hunger Games look tame in comparison 'The Finishing Line'
caused outrage when it was shown on TV and ended up getting banned from
broadcast for over 20 years. And yet there is no doubt that it succeeded
in terrifying it's target audience of 9-11 year olds. Many of those
who saw it say it stuck with them and they never dared play anywhere
near a railway line.
