Pink Floyd

I've said before that the my favourite film ending of all time is the sublime, hypnotic closing sequence of Michelangelo Antonioni's Zabriske Point.

As Daria stares up the lavish house of her boss she imagines it exploding. We see the explosion repeated from a multitude of angles followed by stunning slow mo footage of it's contents as they implode and fall through the sky. The visuals are perfectly matched by Pink Floyd's 'Come in Number 51, Your Time is Up Here' that builds up to (as the article below puts it) 'one of the great "primal screams" in all of rock and roll - and cinema - history' before cutting out abruptly and jolting us back to reality as Daria drives off into the sunset.

The Floyd track was a reworking of 'Careful with that Axe, Eugene' from Ummagumma, an album greatly admired by Antonioni. Pink Floyd actually wrote and recorded an entire score for the film but in the end only three tracks were used. For the other cues Antonioni decided to use existing music by The Youngbloods, Roy Orbison, Jerry Garcia, The Kaleidoscope, Patti Page and The Rolling Stones.

Here are some of the highlights from the lost soundtrack.
