I finally saw Terence Davies' Of Time and the City and loved every
minute of it. A lyrical docu-collage that mixes incredible archive
footage of Liverpool, the town Davies grew up in during the 1950's, with
the music of his youth and the directors own rich narration.
Davies achieves the sublime in some of the more experimental
juxtapositions between sound and image such as the footage of The
Beatles and their teenage audience in the cavern club underscored with a
19th century classical piece that segues seamlessly into footage of
ballroom dancers.
