A Field In England

There aren't many trailers that stand alone as pieces of artwork in their own right but this recent work from the consistently brilliant Julian House for Ben Wheatley's A Field in England does just that. It reminds me of Pablo Ferro's groundbreaking trailers for Stanley Kubrick.

Trailers are usually very diluted as the filmmakers are under pressure to make the film appeal to as many people as possible and the opportunity to produce an artwork that compliments the film gets overlooked.

A Field in England is Wheatley's least accessible film to date. Wonderfully offbeat and uncatergorizable, it offers a viewing experience that at times feels more like taking drugs than watching a film. It's the first UK film to have been simultaneously released on all formats and could set a new trend seeing as initial takings are better than expected.
