Record Sleeves

Jason Evans also happened to design the artwork for two of my favourite albums of the last couple of years; Four Tet's ' There Is Love In You' & Caribou's 'Swim'.  It's good to see quality cover art still exists in an age where every new music format diminishes the importance of the artwork, shrinking dramatically from LP to CD and now relegated to a tiny jpeg on the screen of your mp3 player.  Here's a good blog about cover art old & new.

I'm in the process of sorting out the sound system in our living room and getting a new record player and have started buying vinyl again (scouring the local charity shops to see what I can pick up for less than a fiver).  It's nice being limited to a single stack of random LPs after getting used to being one click away from any album ever recorded and good sleeve art is definitely a consideration I factor in before making a purchase.

I think it will be healthy for my kids to grow up in the digital world with an understanding of the way we used to listen to music; playing a record all the way through without skipping tracks, studying the sleeve while the music plays etc.

Here are some people holding record sleeves in front of their faces!
